Step-by-Step Guide to Building Your First Charcuterie Board

Building a charcuterie board doesn’t need to be intimidating. In fact, it’s one of the easiest ways to impress guests and create an experience that feels elevated. The first step is to gather your ingredients. I always start with a variety of cheeses—soft, hard, and creamy—to create a balance of textures and flavors. Add in a few types of meats—prosciutto, salami, and maybe even a smoked salmon or a pâté for something extra special.

Next, think about the accompaniments: fruits (fresh and dried), veggies, nuts, olives, jams, pickles and crackers. These elements complement the cheeses and meats and provide contrast in flavor and texture. When arranging your board, don’t just throw everything together—think about the flow. Create spaces for each ingredient to shine, using height and variety to make the board visually appealing.

Finally, take a step back and add the finishing touches: a drizzle of honey, a sprinkle of herbs, a few sprigs of fresh rosemary. A great charcuterie board doesn’t just feed people—it creates an atmosphere, a moment for people to come together and enjoy the simple pleasure of food.
